Pediatric Wellness

Gentle Pediatric Treatments

Prices vary according to services needed and age of child.

Babies, children and teens are offered gentle treatments in a relaxed environment. Pediatric treatments are often needle-free, such as shonishin, cupping, guasha, moxibustion or tuina massage. I take time to let each child get comfortable with me and the environment of the office before the treatment. Babies can be treated while being held by their parents, and I teach those old enough to understand that they have “veto power” and their needs, boundaries and preferences will always be respected.

Herbal Consults for Children

Herbal medicine for children is an inexpensive and gentle way to prevent and treat many common childhood conditions.  Herbal medicine is not homeopathic medicine although in the press they are sometimes confused for each other.

Many medicinal herbs can be found in your kitchen and grocery store, and I can help you suit the remedy to your child’s constitution.

Prices vary according to child’s age and services needed.

Shonishin & Tuina/Massage

Needle-free treatments like these use small tools that are used to tap and brush the skin.  For small children they can be treated sitting in a parent’s lap if they’d like. Tuina and acupressure can be done with the child completely clothed.  Treatments are flexible each time depending on the child’s comfort and boundaries, and I like to teach parents how to do this at home between visits.

Here is are two articles about Shonishin written by one of my wonderful pediatrics teachers, Soma Glick:

1) Treating Balinese Chidren with TCB and Shonishin
2) Treating Children with Oriental Medicine

Cupping & Guasha

Cupping and guasha is typically done for older children and teens, but even little ones enjoy the gentler suction cups that relieve muscle tension, open the chest and relieve stress.

Moxibustion

Another needle-free option for children is gentle moxibustion, which involves warming and stimulating points on the body.  This nurturing and strengthening technique is great for cold-type stomach aches, stiff necks from cold or simple fatigue from over-thinking and studying.  This is particularly suitable for children who tend to get cold easily.

Still have some questions?

“Our kids LOVE visiting Elizabeth, and ask for her by name! The sessions are always fun, calming, healing, and our son never behaves better than he does after some "tappies" at Acupuncture. Elizabeth has provided our entire family with a custom herbal regime to help us maintain high levels of health. When issues do arise, we have herbal capsules and tinctures that help calm a cough, dry up a runny nose, ease with teething, you name it. When we leave her office, we feel better equipped to care for ourselves, and our children. From dietary advice to showing us how to do acupoints at home on each other and on our kids, Elizabeth prepares us to live a more healthy, holistic lifestyle, and for that, we are grateful.”

“I started acupuncture treatments with Elizabeth for my older son 9 years ago, when he was 8 and was having frequent and chronic ear infections again. Elizabeth was really wonderful and gentle with him and after starting the treatments and the herbals with her, his ear infections cleared up completely! We have all been going for regular treatments and it has really been a key reason for us staying healthy and only having to go to the doctor's office for well visits. Elizabeth is really knowledgeable, excellent at working with all ages and really listens, her treatments and herbal medicines are very effective and healing! I would highly recommend Elizabeth for her treatments. It is very hard to find such a good acupuncturist and herbalist!”
